Learning Portuguese Through Forró
The Forró Federation (FoFed) is excited to announce the launch of online Portuguese classes and language exchanges aimed at strengthening the global forró community. Forró has brought joy to people around the world, yet language barriers often limit deeper connections within our community. By enhancing Portuguese proficiency, we aim to bridge these gaps, allowing for richer cultural exchanges and friendships.
Why Learn Portuguese?
Portuguese is more than just a language; it’s a gateway to understanding the soul of forró and Brazilian culture. Learning Portuguese allows non-Brazilian forrozeiros to:
- Understand Song Lyrics: Gain a deeper appreciation of forró music by comprehending the stories and emotions conveyed.
- Communicate with Brazilian Dancers: Build friendships at festivals and events without language barriers.
- Enhance Cultural Understanding: Immerse yourself in Brazilian traditions, expressions, and ways of life.
For Brazilian forrozeiros, learning European languages opens doors to:
- Travel with Confidence: Navigate new countries more easily during travels.
- Connect with International Communities: Share Brazilian culture while learning about others.
- Professional Opportunities: Expand career prospects by becoming multilingual.
Our Objectives
- Increase Portuguese Proficiency: Elevate the level of Portuguese within the international forró community.
- Foster Global Connections: Help forrozeiros meet new people beyond their local scenes.
- Support Language Learning for Brazilians: Assist Brazilian dancers in learning European languages before traveling.

Meet Our Teachers
Our teachers are passionate educators who are also part of the forró community.
Julie Anne Caldas
Hi, I’m Julie from São Paulo, now living in Spain. I teach Portuguese to English and Spanish speakers worldwide, many of whom are forró dancers like me. Besides teaching and dancing, I’m a Hatha Yoga teacher, journalist, and writer. Through FoFed, I aim to spread Portuguese with engaging and fun classes that share our beautiful culture. I’ll also coordinate language exchanges to help foreigners learn Portuguese and Brazilians practice other languages. I’m very excited and hope to see you there!
