Introducing the Forró Directory — and what’s coming next
The new Forró Federation website is built around a simple idea: the global Forró community deserves a place where every scene, every creator, every event, and every project can be found, shared, and connected. That place is the new Forró Directory — and this post walks through what’s in it, how the data gets there, and what’s coming next for federation member-partners.
What’s in the directory
The Forró Directory is three connected things: a directory of Creators, an aggregated feed of Events, and a showcase of community-led and federation-led Projects. They share one set of locations, one set of submission forms, and one bilingual interface — every page lives in English and Portuguese.
Forró Creators
The Forró Creators section is the new home for the people who keep Forró moving: teachers, organisers, DJs, musicians, choreographers, and bands. Every creator can claim a profile that lists their city, the disciplines they cover, their links, and their upcoming events — all in one place.
For dancers and travellers, the creator directory is a way to discover who is teaching or playing in a city before you visit. For creators themselves, it’s a self-managed listing that they can keep up to date through a submission form at /submit-creator/ — no Federation gatekeeper required.
Forró Events
The Forró Events feed pulls together workshops, festivals, parties, retreats, and weekly classes from across the global Forró community. Each event has a date, a location, a host creator, and links to the organiser’s own ticketing or signup pages — the Federation never steps between an organiser and their audience.
You can browse the full list at /events/, filter by date or location, or submit your own at /submit-event/. Every event is also pinned to the location directory, so visitors to a city can see “what’s on this weekend” at a glance.
Forró Projects
The Forró Projects section is for everything that doesn’t fit neatly into “creator” or “event” — community initiatives, the Federation’s own programmes (affiliate, masterclasses, board calls), research efforts, archives, and partnerships. Federation-led and community-led projects sit side by side; both are searchable and both can be submitted at /submit-project/.
How event data is gathered
Behind every aggregated feed is the question: where does the data come from? The Forró Directory uses a deliberate mix of three sources, in order of preference:
- Community submissions — the canonical path. Organisers and creators add events themselves via /submit-event/. These submissions are reviewed lightly and published, with the submitter retaining ownership of the data they contributed.
- Partner integrations — federation member-partners (event platforms, ticketing systems, regional aggregators) can sync their listings into the directory through a structured API. This is how high-volume sources get in without manual entry.
- Manual curation — for milestone events, festivals with public announcements, and gaps the community surfaces, Federation volunteers occasionally add entries by hand, always crediting the source.
Every entry in the directory — however it got there — carries a clear provenance: who submitted it, when it was last updated, and which creator or partner it belongs to. We’d rather a slightly smaller feed of trustworthy data than a giant feed of unverified noise.
Member-partner API access
One of the things we’re most excited to announce is that the Forró Directory’s event data is being opened up to federation member-partners through a public, read-only API. Member-partners can pull the same structured event feed that powers the website — filtered by location, by date range, or by creator — into their own platforms, apps, regional newsletters, or community tools.
The goal is straightforward: the data exists, it belongs to the community, and the easier we make it for partners to reuse it, the more places forrozeir@s can discover what’s happening. A regional Forró WhatsApp group’s bot, a city-specific app, an academic dataset for cultural research — all of these are things member-partners can build on top of the directory without re-asking organisers for the same information.
API access is included with federation membership. If you’re an organiser, an event platform, or a community technologist who wants to plug in, become a member-partner at /the-federation/ and we’ll send you the integration details.
What’s coming next
The directory is live, but it’s also the foundation for what comes after. On the near-term roadmap: federation patron tiers with access to private communication channels (WhatsApp, Telegram, mailing lists), featured listings inside the directories, and early access to community programmes. We’re also working on per-city pages that surface “everything in this scene” — events, creators, projects, and member-partners — in one view, plus deeper integrations with the partners who feed the events pipeline.
None of this works without the community putting itself on the map — literally. The directory is only as good as the creators who claim profiles, the organisers who submit events, and the projects that share what they’re doing. If you’re part of the Forró world and you’re not in the directory yet, this is the moment.
Become a member-partner
If you would like API access, featured directory placement, or to support the work that keeps the Federation running, you can join as a member-partner via the form at forms.gle/6L3LAA8k2ptXaaDN8. We’ll be in touch with integration details, the patron tier roadmap, and anything else relevant to how you’d like to plug in.
Thank you to every forrozeir@ who tested, submitted, broke, fixed, translated, and waited patiently while we built this. The Forró Directory belongs to all of us. Let’s fill it up.
