About

Guilherme Veras is an activist and educator who has been a leading voice in valuing Popular Cultures and two-person dances, with deep dedication to the traditional roots of Forró. Since 1999, he has collaborated with major dance groups in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, and built a globally influential career. As an educator, he has shared his methodologies and workshops across Brazil and in nine countries in Europe and South America (Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Uruguay, and Argentina). His forward-thinking approach has made him a key figure in updating the movement, contributing to the diffusion of gender-inclusive teaching methodologies and creating more inclusive, free environments in dance. He has earned recognition in Minas Gerais cultural circles as the first professional in two-person dances to be funded by Circula Minas (SECULT-MG). Today, his work extends beyond classrooms. As a policy advocate and cultural manager, Guilherme Veras coordinates projects, festivals, and Fóruns de Forró de Raiz at state, national, and international levels. Through these platforms, he leads efforts to safeguard Forró as Brazilian intangible cultural heritage in partnership with IPHAN-MG.
