The Forró Federation believes that every dancer deserves to feel safe, respected, and welcomed in our community. While we cannot dictate conduct across the international Forró scene, we can support organizers who are committed to maintaining safer spaces at their events.

This Code of Conduct Template is a practical resource developed through community input and research. It’s designed to help event organizers, dance teachers, and festival producers establish clear expectations and guidelines for their participants.

Important: What This Template Is and Isn’t

This template is:

  • A starting point for creating your own code of conduct
  • Based on community best practices and feedback
  • Free to adapt and customize for your specific needs
  • A resource for organizers to support each other

This template is NOT:

  • Legal advice or a legally binding document
  • A mandatory standard enforced by the Forró Federation
  • A substitute for consulting with legal professionals in your jurisdiction
  • A guarantee of safety or liability protection

The Forró Federation does not:

  • Have authority over conduct at events we don’t organize
  • Collect personal data on organizers or dancers
  • Enforce codes of conduct at events run by others
  • Provide legal representation or expertise

By using this template, you acknowledge that your organization assumes full responsibility for implementing, enforcing, and adapting this code of conduct. We strongly recommend consulting with legal counsel familiar with your local laws and regulations.

How to Use This Template

Step 1: Download and Review

Download or copy the template in your preferred format (Markdown, Word, or PDF). Read through it entirely to understand all sections.

Step 2: Customize Key Sections

Look for sections marked with [CUSTOMIZE] or [YOUR ORGANIZATION NAME] and replace them with your specific information:

  • Organization name and branding
  • Contact methods for reporting issues
  • Specific venue accessibility features
  • Your escalation and enforcement procedures
  • Optional sections you may want to remove or modify

Step 3: Consider Your Context

Every community is different. Consider:

  • Legal requirements in your country/region
  • Venue-specific policies (alcohol, accessibility, capacity)
  • Community norms and cultural context
  • Your capacity to enforce policies (team size, resources)
  • Language accessibility (translation needs)

Step 4: Seek Legal Review

Before publishing, we recommend having your customized code reviewed by:

  • A lawyer familiar with event liability in your jurisdiction
  • Local community organizations with expertise in safety policies
  • Insurance providers (if applicable)

Step 5: Communicate and Train

  • Share your code of conduct publicly before events
  • Train your team on how to handle reports and violations
  • Make reporting methods clear and accessible
  • Be prepared to actually enforce what you’ve written

Step 6: Review and Update Regularly

Codes of conduct should evolve. Schedule regular reviews (annually or after significant incidents) to ensure yours remains effective and relevant.
